Sri Arunodayam largely banks on donations from individuals to meet the everyday needs of the children. To depend on intermittent donations to run a home for special children is a highly unstable proposition. We are in dire need of a fixed monthly income to provide for the children. |
| |
Indian non-government organizations that depend on individual contributions face a common problem. When there is visible growth in the organization by way of a new building, vehicles, and increase in manpower and services rendered, the donors or supporters tend to believe that the organization has achieved sustainability. This causes a dip in the contributions. |
| |
The number of children admitted is increasing steadily. We constantly improve our services to the children. |
| |
Another factor to consider is the steep increase in commodity prices. Consequently we have to increase the number of individuals and institutions who support our cause and work. For this, we work on effective fund-raising and resource-mobilization strategies. |
| |
Recently, we have harnessed the support of a funding agency which sponsors the salaries of employees engaged in rehabilitation training and care-giving. |

| What Some Said... |
| |
I vividly remember my first visit to Sri Arunodayam in 2004. As I entered this home of Love, small and big children smiled, waved, and shook hands with me. Some even drew me into a conversation. As I toured through the rooms, I was moved to see the children. Especially the infants… My God! To me, each child here is a beautiful painting which was given a violent jolt before it was completed. I saw the beauty in their eyes, their innocent smiles, the tender limbs and their fresh fingers, yet, the beauty did not consummate… |
| |
On my way back home, I mused… luxurious living, shopping, holidaying, succeeding in life, yet there is something that I have failed to include in my routine expense statement. I buy expensive gifts for my dear ones… What shall I do for these dear children? As I drove past the busy city roads, my mind was quickly churning up thoughts and ideas. And then there came up a brilliant thought! On every occasion in my family, I would sponsor and dine a meal with the children. Birthdays, wedding anniversaries, remembrance days in the family would be spent with the children. The idea seemed exciting to me. I could not wait to get back home and call Iyyappan who welcomed the idea and said it would breeze happiness into the lives of children. |

Ever since, I sponsor breakfast, lunch and dinner on special days and I feel happy and contented. |

My grandmother had the best network of resources. She used to link people with needs and those who had the resource or services. And this was from kitchen utensils, work opportunities to marriage alliances! |
| |
Picking this trait from her, I thought I could help the needy with goods that they would need. They could be commodities – edible, medical, clothing, office needs… anything. And when I met Iyyappan, I started working on this vigorously. Rations, medicines, diapers, mats, clothes, and a lot more… it feels good… |
| |
Iyyappan requested me to write my name at the end of this note. However, I feel what I do is more important than who I am… |
